WASHINGTON - Today, Senator Kamala D. Harris, a member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement:
“This Administration and this President owe the public a full and transparent accounting of General Flynn’s conversations with Russian officials that jeopardized national security and made him susceptible to blackmail. General Flynn’s resignation has raised far more questions than it’s answered, including who authorized or was aware of the calls to Russian officials and why this Administration failed to act after it was made aware, more than two weeks ago by the Department of Justice, of the vulnerabilities posed by the call.
“Government officials have a responsibility to maintain the trust bestowed upon them by the American people. I join my Senate colleagues in calling for public hearings into Russian activities directed against U.S. interests including and beyond the 2016 election, and a renew my support for a bipartisan, fact-based investigation by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that is free from political influence. Additionally, such an investigation must thoroughly examine former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s possible role in compromising U.S. national security interests through his interactions with Russia officials.”
